Nurturing

fullsizerender(5)

Our school environment has been especially considered in design to create calm and beautiful spaces following the principles of the Reggio Emilia school of thought. Teachers carefully organise spaces for small and large group projects and furniture and displays where possible are based on natural materials and colours.

Not only do we take care to nurture and care for our children whilst they are with us, we also have set plans in place which support children when they are transitioning to and from different providers - ensuring that children are quick to settle, happy and ready to learn. For example, for mid-year transitions, transitions from nursery to EYFS and the transition from Year 6 to high school. We liaise closely with other providers, hold special events such as parent workshops, school activities and home visits with our children in foundation class.

“The personal development and welfare of pupils is outstanding. Pupils’ welfare has remained a top priority.”

“Many pupils arrive or leave the school at times other than at the start of the academic year. A big proportion of pupils arrive at the school with specific social and emotional needs. Leaders’ work to support all pupils, including the most vulnerable, is exemplary; they ensure that each pupil receives the one-to-one care and support that they need to engage in all aspects of school life.”

Ofsted 2018

We are extremely proud of the nurturing and caring environment that we have created at Sandlings and have an ethos of going above and beyond to support all our children, making effective use of the service pupil premium to support our work.

We use this premium to support all of our children, in many ways. Programmes are delivered by our excellent team of teaching assistants. These include our Thrive and Nurture programs and our World Club, which supports children when parents are deployed. These sessions are all delivered in our specialist thrive room, a cosy and quiet space, that children love to spend time in.  Children with SEN are also well supported in class and with additional intervention programmes targeted specifically to meet their needs.

We celebrate children’s success in a variety of ways including Stars of the Week certificates. We also share in assemblies children’s achievements from outside school, such as sporting medals and we give all children a chance to shine in our annual talent show!

We ensure children are safe and well behaved, children know that Sandlings is a safe place to be and who to go to if they need help. We have a wide selection of programmes which we can access to support this work as well as working with agencies outside school such as the NSPCC, our local behaviour support team and nursing team.
